Microneedling

This patient in her 40’s wanted to improve her overall facial appearance. She had micro needling with PRP( Platelet Rich Plasma) for resurfacing of the facial skin and botox for her forehead. The combo procedure of PRP and micro needling brightened her skin color, smoothed the skin texture, and even lifted and tightened her skin to reduce the nasolabial fold and marionette lines.

Botox in the frown line smoothed the forehead and lifted the eyebrows slightly. Together these procedures moved the clock backward for her about 10 years. The effect has been maintained even after almost one year. She now needs small touch ups to keep up. I recommended some filler for the under eye area this time.

Microneedling is particularly useful for persons who do not want to or cannot have laser treatment for skin resurfacing. Microneedling is effective for the treatment of acne, scar, or skin brightening. Persons with melanin abundance are at risk for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation(PIH) after resurfacing laser such as CO2 laser. Microneedling combined with PRP in repeated sessions can give skin resurfacing result comparable to CO2 without the risk of PIH.

Microneedling with PRP is a popular facial option because it overcomes the epidermal-dermal barrier of the traditional facial and stimulates skin collagen production for a long term effect.

1. Blood draw: A small sample of your blood is collected in the ezPRF tubes.

2. Centrifugation: The ezPRF tubes are then spun in order to separate your red blood cells from everything else. The centrifugal force generated pushes the heavier red blood cells to the bottom of the tube.

3. Collect concentrate: Once the centrifugation is complete, the top layer of the tubes content is collected. The layer (approx 10% of the tube) is composed of your very Platelets and White Blood cells.
